Brownlow winner Neale's resemblance to One Direction star Harry Styles had Brisbane mid un-Lachie in love

Lachie Neale was the toast of the footballing world last night but it was a nod to his proud wife that’s been talked about just as much as his exploits powering Brisbane’s midfield in 2020.

The Brownlow Medalist’s partner Jules was brought to tears during the former Docker’s classy acceptance speech, and there was no way Neale was about to forget her sacrifice in his journey.

Neale spoke beautifully about his wife and her big call to sell a successful business in Perth so the pair could make the Queensland switch.

“I want to thank my wife Jules, she’s an amazing human being,” he said.

“Not many people probably know but she owned a salon in Perth before we decided to move to Brisbane. She had to sell that to come over here and follow my dreams.

“She was doing very well for herself over there but she always puts me ahead of herself when she shouldn’t have to.

“She’s the most selfless person I know and my biggest support, so thank you very much Jules, I love you.”

The couple looked every part a loved-up pairing at last night’s Brownlow Medal, but the footy star’s likeness to a One Direction star threatened to derail the glamour couple before they’d even begun.

And the rejection was brutal.

Neale turned up at Fremantle at pick 58 in the 2011 draft and while fans quickly took to the stocky mid, Jules, like a few AFL recruiters weren’t so keen.

The Lions powerhouse revealed that former skipper Matthew Pavlich had introduced the pair.

“The first time I met Jules I was 18 and I asked Pav to introduce me to her,” Neale recalled at last year’s Brownlow Medal count.

“He came back and said: ‘She’s not interested in an 18-year-old Harry Styles lookin’ kid’.”

As it turns out the pair reconnected about six years later and were engaged in 2017 before tying the knot at the end of 2018.
