Free beer for a year from Gage for one lucky drinker

A golden ticket to free beer for a year is today sitting in a WA liquor store fridge.

A Willy Wonka-style promotion by WA brewing giant Gage Roads means one lucky beer lover is about to experience the adult version of being a kid in the chocolate factory.

One six-pack of Single Fin beer bottles — complete with one hidden “Golden Fin” stubbie — will be lurking somewhere waiting to be found. The finder will receive 15 cartons of Gage Roads beer, the equivalent of about a beer a day for a year.

Gage Roads brand lead Bec Lauchlan, pictured, warned people to carefully check their beer labels for potential post-coronavirus cheer. “We’re really conscious that it’s been a tough year for a lot of Australians, so we just wanted to bring in summer with a bit of fun,” she said.

To ensure the winner feels more Wonka than wonky, the prize will be drip-fed from their local bottle shop, rather than be picked up in bulk. There is a Golden Fin stubbie hidden in WA, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria.

But the WA winner will get a private brewery tour and tasting session with Gage Roads.

Gage Roads brew chief Aaron Heary said the Single Fin beer was initially postured as an Australian take on an English summer ale, perfect for hot, dry weather. With its “light, fruity hop aroma” it quickly gained popularity to be the brewer’s best seller.
