Officer crash tackles alleged thief in dramatic Cairns arrest
A police officer has crash tackled an alleged thief after he pulled out a bloodied syringe on a street in Cairns.
Police were called to a Gatton Service station around 10pm last night following reports a man had stolen an item from the business.
Responding officers found the man a short distance away, where he allegedly presented a bloodied syringe while ignoring their requests.

Footage captured by an onlooker shows police surrounding the man with tasers drawn, while one officer slowly moves around behind him.
Suddenly the officer at the rear takes a run up, before crash tackling the man to the ground.

The man was taken into custody and charged with stealing, failing to take reasonable precautions with a syringe and obstructing police.
He is scheduled to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on November 24.
