Meghan Markle's former high school holds 'singing, dancing' celebration ahead of Royal Wedding
The wedding of the year is just a few days off, but in Hollywood today they were already celebrating.
But why Hollywood? And who 'they'? 'They' are the girls at Immaculate Heart High School, just one block back from Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.
It is the private Catholic girls school where a young Meghan Markle first stepped on a stage, which started her on a path - almost unbelievably - to become a member of the British Royal Family.
The girls held a 'Here's to Meghan' celebration, with British and American flags decorating the school assembly area. There was singing, dancing and tea and cakes - "just like the English have".
The students also did their homework on Meghan.
Speaking with teachers who were at the school in the late 1990's - and still are - they discovered that Meghan was not only a star in the school plays. She was also involved in the after-school programs, working with the disadvantaged.
Student Catarina Montez said Meghan set a good example for all the girls.
"I heard she was very active in the community and helped with the soup kitchen for the homeless," she said.
"I think that inspired us to expand our horizons outside of school to work with kids."
"As an African American woman," Mya Mathews said "I think she really makes us strive to be better. So I am really happy we able to do this for her now."
Meghan's dad Thomas also worked in the nearby studios, as a crewmember on the TV show 'Married With Children'.
He would often leave work for a short time to pick up Meghan and then take her back to the studios where, even as an 11-year-old, she would get a close up look at the career path she would eventually take.
"My thought, truly, was 'Harry is so lucky. He has no idea,'" Maria Pollia, a favorite high school teacher of Markle's, told the Associated Press.
"When you think about the circles that Prince Harry is in - and when you think about the many, many accomplished women that he has known all his life - there is something that I know about Meghan, which is her genuineness, her compassion, her depth, (which) is something that I'm not sure that all of those women share."
Immaculate Heart has hosted several other 'notables' as students over the years. A young Mary Tyler Moore was educated there, as well as Tyra Banks.
This was the first of two 'Meghan days'. The girls will be up early on Saturday morning and back at the school before dawn to watch ex-student, Meghan walk down the aisle - proving Hollywood dreams sometimes, do come true.
