Man killed by his own booby trap device
A man in the US was killed by a boobytrap-like device he made for the front door of his home, police say.
Ronald Cyr, 65, called 911 last Thursday evening -  Thanksgiving Day - and reported he had been shot, the Van Buren Police Department in Maine said.
When officers arrived, they discovered a device on the front door of the man's home that was designed to fire a handgun if anyone attempted to enter, the department said.
Police found other unknown devices around the house and contacted the state's bomb squad.
After an hours-long investigation, authorities determined Cyr - who later succumbed to his injuries - was hit after an "unintentional discharge of one of his homemade devices," the department said.
It is unknown why Cyr had set up the booby traps at his house or how he accidentally detonated the device.
Last year an FBI agent was shot by a booby-trapped wheelchair as he tried to enter a property in Oregon.
In 2013, a marijuana grower died after driving a quad bike into booby-trapped wire at his home in New York State.
