Karen from Brighton: Jodi Grollo challenges Daniel Andrews to North Face jacket style battle
A woman dubbed “Karen from Brighton” has taken a swipe at Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and challenged him to a battle.
Jodi Grollo, who shot to fame when she complained about walking the same streets of Brighton, has challenged Mr Andrews to a battle over who wears North Face jackets the best.
Ms Grollo has embraced her viral celebrity status after appearing on the nightly TV news where she said she should be able to travel outside her affluent southeast suburb of Brighton because she got bored walking the same streets.
Her comments drew harsh criticism from the Premier during one of his daily media briefings, which was the beginning of a rivalry between the pair.
Her latest dig came from an Instagram account, believed to be set up by her son, to poke fun at herself and take potshots at Mr Andrews.
She posted an image of them both wearing black jackets from the luxury outdoor brand and predicted she would win the style battle in a “landslide decision”.
“I’ll dodge him faster then (sic) he dodges questions about hotel quarantine,” the post quipped.
“I’ll lock him down like Victoria. Two style icons enter, only one will leave with north face ambassadorship. Karen’s record 1-0 Andrews record 0 wins from 15304 cases.”
She finished the post with the hashtag #karenforpremier.
She described herself as “Kween of the North” and the Premier as “Lord Daniel of House Andrews”, both references to the hit TV series Game of Thrones, which also featured in a meme on her Instagram story depicting them both preparing for the face off.
She claimed her 1-0 record came after a victory over Karen from Bunnings, who she said she walked all over like she did “Briiighton”.
The Instagram account has accumulated 13,000 followers in just over a week and goes by the handle “therealkarenfrombrighton”.
She has also posted photos of her supporting her local cafe doing takeaway coffees, and sipping a Johnnie Walker because she can’t walk the Tan anymore.
Ms Grollo is the daughter of pokies king Bruce Mathieson, and the wife of Gianni Grollo, whose family controls the prominent Grollo construction empire.
She initially went viral when she appeared on Nine News from Melbourne’s Botanical Gardens track and was asked about the new restriction not to cross municipal boundaries while exercising.
“Well, you get sick of walking the same streets,” she said. “You know, I’ve done all of Brighton.”
That drew an angry response from the Premier who said “being bored is better than being in intensive care”.
