Young Perth swimmers show lifesaving skills
YOUNG Scarborough lifesavers have proven their skills at a State competition.
Four Scarboro Surf Life Saving Club swimmers won trophies at the Junior Lifeguard Club State Titles in on June 9.
They were among 75 competitors from 17 clubs who tested their skills in modified pool lifesaving events.
Natasha Barnes-Drury (female under 8s), Tamara Nelson (female under 12s), Finn Knox (male under 12s) and Lily Tolev (female under 14s) were overall winners for their age groups.
Royal Life Saving WA water safety education manager Trent Hotchkin said events tested children’s skills in rescue, accident prevention and emergency care.
“While we ensure the activities are great fun and offer new experiences for the children, they also have a serious outcome of educating the children in essential lifesaving skills that may one day save a life,” he said.
“The program provides a pathway from grass roots participation through to elite competition for those who would like to continue down the competitive path of pool lifesaving.”
