Queensland man wins second largest Powerball jackpot in Australia
A Queensland man says he is “staggered” after winning $60 million as the only winner of the division one Powerball draw overnight.
The jackpot won by the Burleigh Heads retiree is the second largest division one prize ever won by a single entry in Australian lottery history.
"Is this a joke? You've got to be kidding me surely," the man told lottery officials when they called him last night.
"That's unbelievable. I'm a bit stunned. I don't know what to say.
"I'm staggered. I can't get my head around it.
"It's a bit surreal really. To be honest, I've never thought about what I would do if I won $60 million.
"It's a dream. You enter it and you don't expect to win it.
"I'd better hang on tight to my ticket."
Last night's draw saw more than $1.5 million other prizes won across divisions two to nine, worth a combined $27.54 million.
Two division two winners each snared a prize of $381,369.65.
The Gold Coast jackpot winner said he often bought tickets on a whim and had never won more than $600.
Though retired, he said he was still "young enough that I will still have plenty of time to enjoy it".
"Most likely I will share it with my family and go on a real good holiday," the man said.
"I'm over the moon. It's just life-changing. I'm shaking.
"I don't expect to get much sleep tonight."
The largest division one prize won by a single entry was worth $70 million collected by Hervey Bay grandparents in 2016.
