Queensland man to surprise family with $17m Powerball win
A Queensland man has become $17 million richer after scoring the only division one entry in last night's Powerball draw.
The new multi-millionaire from Logan, in South East Queensland, said he plans to surprise his family in a unique way.
"I am not going to tell my family," he said.
"I am just going to rock up to the house with some fancy purchase, maybe a new car, and see if they can guess we are now multi-millionaires."
The Queensland man took home $17.3 million in Powerball draw 1254 – overjoyed by the news, he said the reveal almost made him "pass out".
"I think I am going to pass out. This completely changes everything for me," he said.
"I almost didn't buy a ticket, but then I thought 'why not?' What a good decision."
The winner said he will use his prize to buy a house, a new car, travel the world, and share it with his family and friends.
The ticket was purchased from IGA Meadowbrook, where the owner Sam Rizk said he was glad to make one of his customers a multi-millionaire.
"What incredible news," he said.
"We wish our winner all the very best and hope he enjoys living life as a multi-millionaire.
"Hopefully, we have some more major prize wins soon."
