Peel Thunder fights back for win against East Fremantle
PEEL Thunder enjoyed a narrow win against East Fremantle in a Good Friday clash at David Grays Arena.
The final score was 12.13.85 for Peel and 11.7.73 for East Fremantle.
Coach Cam Shepherd said it was a hard fought game.
“They got the jump on us and we were chasing all day,” Shepherd said.
East Fremantle kicked five goals in the first quarter to Peel’s two goals.
Peel also suffered some injuries with Sam Sturt getting a concussion after a collision with one of the East Fremantle players. Sturt still had a severe headache after the game.
Blair Bell also sustained a hamstring injury.
Shepherd said in close games it could go either way.
He said everything was in place and he was proud of the players for fighting hard.
“We had to claw our way back,” Shepherd said.
Shepherd said Peel’s midfield stayed strong, Sean Darcy was good in the ruck and Bell’s five goals were critical for the win.
Peel Thunder are now preparing for their game against Subiaco at Leederville Oval on April 27.
Subiaco have not lost a game since Peel Thunder beat them in the 2017 Grand Final.
