Murdoch siblings raise money for juvenile diabetes
A MURDOCH brother and sister are teaming up to tackle the Rottnest Channel Swim.
South Shore Swimming Club members Shannon (21) and Ryan Doody (17) will take part in the swim as a duo while also raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Ms Doody was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 12 and has raised more than $65,000 through taking part in the JDRF One Walk over multiple years.
She said they were excited to take part in the swim for the first time as the Doody Duo.
“We’ll be swimming for 30 minutes at a time, taking turns,” she said.
“When I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, they said swimming saved my life so I’m happy to be able to raise money.
“To raise $65,000 is amazing, I know the money goes towards cures and improving things for people living with diabetes.”
Ryan said they had been training multiple times each week for the swim.
Fellow club member and Paralympian Jeremy McClure is also taking part in the swim.
