High jump champion Brandon Starc coaches Perth’s little athletes

COMMONWEALTH Games gold medallist and champion high jumper Brandon Starc recently shared his tips for winning with Madeley’s little athletes.

Kingsway Little Athletics Centre rising star Charlotte (Charli) Woodward, who was the reigning U14 State 100m and 200m champion and silver medallist in high jump, was among the athletes to receive one-on-one coaching with Starc.

“Meeting Brandon was just an awesome experience,” she said.

“It really opened my eyes to what the future could be and that national competitions are possible.

“The advice he gave me was that he wasn’t amazing at my age but if you love the sport and stick with it you will make something good out of it and make yourself proud.”

Starc spoke to athletes from the Kingsway centre as part of the Coles Little Athletes Big Dreams program in late October.

“Little Athletics is where it all began for me,” he said.

“It’s where I learnt the fundamental skills and developed my love for the sport.

“I hope by visiting the kids at Kingsway Little Athletics, I may inspire even just one kid to go onto bigger and better things.”
