Young NSW driver killed after car strikes tree
A young driver was killed in Sydney’s inner west overnight after his car careered off the road and slammed into a tree.
Emergency services were called to Concord Road at Rhodes around 11.20pm following reports of a single-vehicle crash.
Police said the 20-year-old driver’s white Mitsubishi Lancer left the road’s northbound lane and hit a tree just outside Rhodes Fire Station.
The man died at the scene.
A female passenger was taken to Westmead Hospital for minor injuries.
A crime scene was established and forensics officers are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The crash was the second fatality on New South Wales’ roads overnight after the driver of a suspected stolen taxi was also killed when he crashed into a truck in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.
Police were called to the intersection of Bells Line of Road and Bilpin School Road at Bilpin around 10pm to find the unidentified man dead.
The driver of the truck was uninjured.
Police said the taxi had been stolen at knifepoint around 9.40pm in Lithgow.
