NSW man, girl hurt in Anna Bay home explosion
A man and a young girl have been injured after military supplies were thrown into a fire on the NSW Central Coast, it is believed.
A 50-calibre shell is believed to have exploded in a fire in the home hitting the 37-year-old man and four-year-old girl with shrapnel in Anna Bay, north of Newcastle.
Both were treated at the scene then taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
They are described as having suffered non-life threatening lacerations.
The NSW police bomb squad has been called in to investigate, as well as specialist personnel from the Australian Defence Force.
"A number of items were removed from the home and rendered safe," NSW Police said in a statement.
Police are investigating.
