Victorian man and woman caught at domestic check-in with $10,000 of allegedly stolen jewellery
A Victorian couple have been arrested after allegedly trying to leave the state with $10,000 worth of stolen jewellery from a Rundle Mall store.
The jewellery - which included a necklace and bracelet - was reported stolen about 5:30pm on Wednesday after witnesses saw the male suspect running from the store and into a parked car which was waiting on Stephens Place.
CCTV footage of Rundle Mall showed the waiting car, which was a rental and had stolen number plates that were taken from Russell Tce at Edwardstown earlier in the day.
A police investigation led officers to Adelaide Airport where the man and woman were seen at the domestic check-in.
A 42-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were arrested and charged with aggravated theft.
They were refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
The stolen jewellery was recovered and the rental car was seized for examination.
