Tourist in Sydney roof scam syndicate to be deported
An Irish tourist involved in a roofing scam that fleeced elderly Sydney residents out of tens of thousands of dollars is set to be deported.
James O'Driscoll, 20, was among three people arrested in March after defrauding 72-year-old Michael Hickson out of $42,000 after offering to do minor roof repairs on his home.
O'Driscoll appeared in Sutherland Local Court today and was released with time already served.
Driscoll apologised for his actions.
"I'm ever so sorry for everything that happened,' he told the magistrate.
"If I could take it back I really would... I'm in jail on the other side of the world. I'll never do anything again. I just want to go home and live my life."
O'Driscoll was told he would be taken straight to Villawood Detention Centre and deported home to Ireland.
One of his co-offenders, Johnny Baker, was sentenced to ten months prison. With time already served he'll be released in January 2020
