Teenager killed after falling from ute tray in tragic 4WD accident
A teenager was killed after falling from the tray of a ute while on a 4WD track in a suburb in Sydney’s south overnight.
Around 8.15pm emergency services were called to the track off Heathcote Road in Lucas Heights following reports an 18-year-old man had fallen from a Toyota Hilux.
The 18-year-old driver and another 19-year-old passenger assisted the teen until the arrival of paramedics, however he died at the scene.
The driver was then taken to Sutherland Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing but was later released.
He has since been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving, driving without a properly fastened seatbelt and two counts of unrestrained passengers.
The man was then granted conditional bail and is expected to appear at Sutherland Local Court on August 30.
A crime scene has been established at the 4WD track as forensics police work to determine the circumstances around the incident.
A report will also be prepared by the state Coroner.
