Sydney street becomes wrecking yard as truck takes out cars
A street in Sydney's Northern Beaches has become a wrecking yard, after a large truck demolished a number of parked cars.
The driver lost control of the vehicle on Alexander Street in Collaroy late this afternoon, speeding down the street and hitting eight cars, before slamming into a telegraph pole and bringing down live wires.
It eventually rolled and came to a stop in a front yard.
"I think a truck came over the letterbox and rock wall … and it went over and sort of pushed the car and hit another car, hit my girlfriend's parents," witness Taylor Barkle told 9News.
"Our car (was) hit by the truck and dragged back around the two houses down from where it was originally parked," local Will Hurst said.
The 32-year-old driver was taken by ambulance to hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
No one else was injured.
Residents said they are often woken by the sound of trucks barrelling down the street, and the three-tonne limit is often disobeyed.
"It's a mess, happens a lot in this street, very dangerous, not much room to get up and down, a lot of people don't give way," resident David Melrose said.
