Shots fired at Wallaroo, police hunting armed offender
A MANHUNT is underway and a dangerous area has been declared at Wallaroo on the Yorke Peninsula as police search for an armed man with a gun who has opened fire.
A heavy police presence has descended on the Copper Coast town following reports of the armed man.
SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens confirmed on Monday afternoon that a dangerous police operation was underway and that shots had been fired.
“It’s very early stages on this particular matter. We are looking for a man who has evaded police,” he said.
“There have been some shots fired I am advised. If they (the public) are aware it is the person we are seeking we strongly advise them not to approach the person and to call police.
“No police were injured but we have yet to have a proper assessment of whether that person (the gunman) has been injured.”
Police have declared a “dangerous area” for the section of the town bounded by East Tce, Cornish Tce, Gouge St and Ryan St and are urging for residents to obey officer directions and avoid this area if possible.
