P-plater ploughs into Melbourne home after falling asleep at the wheel
A P-plate driver has fallen asleep behind the wheel, seconds before ploughing his Honda into a home south-east of Melbourne.
Leon Li and Vivian Zhai were asleep in the upstairs bedroom of their Berwick home when they woke to a huge bang around 7:45am this morning.
The couple rushed downstairs to find the car and it's 22-year-old driver inside the house – their front door and wall reduced to rubble.
The property's front door and wall were completely destroyed.
Leon Li and Vivian Zhai's pet dog Oreo had to be rescued by fire fighters following the crash.
The residents helped the driver upstairs as they waited for emergency services to arrive, with firefighters called in to help rescue the couple's pet dogs Oreo and Pipi.
Incredibly, no one was injured during the incident.
Police say the driver wasn't under the influence of drugs or alcohol and wasn't speeding – but he was fatigued, following a night out in the city.
The man is expected to be charged on summons with careless driving.
