LNP stalwart Lawrence Springborg mourns death of daughter

Lawrence Springborg and his family are mourning the loss of his daughter Megan.

Megan was last seen in Hobart on July 28.

The 27-year-old’s family raised concerns after they were unable to contact her days later.

Tasmania Police confirmed her body had been located on Saturday.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death and a report will now be prepared for the coroner.

Mr Springborg said in a statement: “We cherish the short time that we had with Megan and the wonderful memories which we will value forever.

“We also express our deep appreciation to the community for their kind words and prayers of support.”

Mr Springborg was the first leader of the merged Liberal National Party from 2008 to 2009.

He also led the party again between 2015 and 2016.

Mr Springborg was elected mayor of Goondiwindi Regional Council at the local government elections held across the state in March 2020.
