Kingsley nurse among WA’s best

A KINGSLEY-based nurse has been recognised among the state’s best.

Lindsay MacKenzie, who is a palliative care nurse for Silver Chain, won the Consumer Appreciation Award at the WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards.

Ms MacKenzie said working for Silver Chain for more than 13 years had been “thoroughly rewarding”.
“I am humbled and honoured to receive an award for a job I love doing,” she said.

“I’m a small part of a fantastic palliative care team.

“I get up in the morning and genuinely look forward to going to work – I’m really lucky.”

Working as a palliative care nurse for 29 years, Ms MacKenzie provides holistic care to patients and their families and was nominated for the award by the sister of a patient.

“Lindsay is the ideal nurse – caring, compassionate, kind and patient-centred,” the nomination said.

“She brought physical and emotional support, laughter and hope to the family at a critical time and continues to be a lifeline for us.”

Tish Morrison, Palliative Care WA at Silver Chain clinical operations director, said Ms MacKenzie was an exceptional nurse.

“The Hospice Care Service is highly regarded by our community and we are privileged to receive a large volume of thank you cards,” she said.

“Lindsay’s contribution to the care of clients and their families is a regular theme in the compliments we receive.”
