'Holy f---! Two? I've got double that win?'
A Sunshine Coast man accidentally bought the same winning lotto ticket twice, doubling his cash.
The man, aged in his 40s, was already celebrating winning $993,091.48 in Saturday night’s Gold Lotto draw, but didn’t realise he had doubled his win until a lotto official called him this morning.
“Holy f---! Two?! Two?! Oh my god. I’ve got double that win?” the man said when he got the call.
That brought the ecstatic man’s total prize to $1.98 million. He bought the winning lotto tickets online.
“What I did is I accidentally doubled up. I did buy two tickets. I’ve done it a few times now. I buy entries in advance, but then sometimes overlap when I get the next one,” the man said.
He said quitting his job now was a distinct possibility now the win has doubled, and that he intends on helping out his family with the big windfall.
“I’m going to cry. I need to ring my mum and dad. With this, I can do something for them.”
It was also a great start to the week for an Adelaide man after discovering he’s close to $1 million richer.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said he didn't believe he had become an instant millionaire until he received a phone call from SA Lotto officials this morning.
"Normally when I win, I get an email to say that I've won, even if it is something small,” he said.
"But I didn't get an email so I went to double check and when I opened up the Lotto app and saw the amount, I thought I was seeing things. I had to confirm with my wife."
"I didn't believe it until it was confirmed by (the) phone call."
The 18-game QuickPick was purchased online and although the winner wasn't in the mood to go to work today he said early retirement is not on the cards.
"It has come at a really good time for us. It's been a godsend."
"We'll definitely be buying a house."
