'Heartbreaking': Young couple killed in motorbike crash
A young couple have died in a motorcycle crash in Sydney's south on Sunday morning, in a scene that emergency responders described as "heartbreaking".
Emergency services were called to Forest Road, Peakhurst at 11:10am, where the motorbike was crushed into a pole.
Despite the best efforts of concerned witnesses, the 32-year-old male rider and his 22-year-old pillion died at the scene.
"I was sitting at the bus stop waiting for a bus, the next thing I heard: bang," said witness Douglas Blades.
Andrew Bibby from NSW Ambulance has commended the bravery of the bystanders who stepped in to try to administer CPR to the pair.
"We had people calling 000 and our 000 call takers talked people through doing CPR. The bystanders were doing an incredible job," he said.
"It was a very heartbreaking scene, to see two young people, their lives cut tragically short."
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether the rider was speeding when he lost control of the motorbike.
Anyone with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
