Girl, nine, killed in car crash near Rockhampton
A 9-year-old girl has died and a 6-year-old boy is in a critical condition after a crash in Central Queensland.
Two cars were travelling in opposite directions in Ironpot north of Rockhampton when they collided at an intersection yesterday morning.
According to Queensland Police, the two vehicles collided at the intersection of Artillery and Yeppoon roads at 9.30am.
The first vehicle, a blue Toyota hatchback contained a 40-year-old woman, a six-year-old boy and two girls aged nine and ten.
A 33-year-old woman was driving the second vehicle, a grey Toyota hatchback, with two female passengers aged eight and 12.
The occupants of both vehicles were transported to the Rockhampton Base Hospital.
The nine-year-old girl was pronounced dead in hospital while the six-year-old boy was airlifted to Queensland’s Children Hospital in Brisbane with life-threatening injuries.
Five others involved in the crash were treated for minor injuries.
Queensland Police said it's Forensic Crash Unit investigation is continuing.
