Fire crews called out in Perth due to man vaping
AN e-cigarette smoker getting their nicotine fix this morning was behind a Department of Fire and Emergency services response in the middle of Perth this morning.
Firefighters were called out to busy St Georges Terrace to reports that a bin was on fire.
However, when they got there they found it was a man having a vape on an e-cigarette.
A DFES spokeswoman said it was common for fire crews to be called out to non-fire related jobs but rare for them to be called out to respond to a person vaping.
This call comes after another good Samaritan alerted police to a man making threats to kill – a spider…..
Current WA laws around vaping are vague – selling any device which resembles a cigarette is illegal in Australia.
However, WA has not banned using e-cigarettes in non-smoking areas, like some other Australian States.
But owners and managers may choose to bring in policies applying to their premises which prohibits the use of e-cigarettes wherever smoking is prohibited.
