Emotional funeral for young brothers who drowned in Ross River
The father of one of the brothers who drowned in a Townsville river has said he's been touched by the outpouring of love and support for his family.
A funeral was held for Barak Austral, 5, and Jhulio Sariago,3, in Darwin yesterday.
Barak's father thanked the community during the service.
"It's just hard to say because we're so overwhelmed at the people involved,” he said.
"They've done so much for us."
The brothers' bodies were found submerged in the Ross River, just metres from where they lived, in February.
Family had noticed them missing and contacted police, sparking a massive response from authorities.
A neighbour's security camera captured the boys walking down towards the water, and a witness later reported seeing them jump in.
Ten hours after they were reported missing, police made the tragic discovery.
A public memorial was held for the boys and was attended by around 100 people. Two crosses now stand at the site in memory of the toddlers.
Their bodies were brought to Darwin to be laid to rest in their home country.
