Elderly man becomes seventh Victorian to die of COVID-19
A man in his 80s has become the seventh Victorian to die of coronavirus.
Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton confirmed the death this morning on Twitter.
"Sadly, an additional death reported overnight in a man in his 80s. Seven patients remain in ICU," he said.
Victoria has 49 new cases of coronavirus, with the total number of people infected now at 1085.
It comes as a cancer patient linked to a coronavirus outbreak at a Melbourne hospital died of COVID-19 on Wednesday, marking Victoria's sixth death from COVID-19.
The woman in her 60s died at The Alfred hospital, less than a week after two other patients at the hospital's haematology and oncology ward died from the virus.
The national death toll sits at 25.
