Craig McLachlan charged with sexual assault offences
Actor Craig McLachlan has been charged with a series of sex offences, including indecent assault.
The 53-year-old Gold Logie-winner has been hit with one count of common law assault, eight counts of indecent assault, and one count of attempted indecent assault.
Victorian Police confirmed today that he was charged on summons to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on February 8.
A statement from McLachlan's spokesperson reads;
“Craig is innocent of all these charges which will be vigorously defended.”
McLachlan became known to TV audiences on the Young Doctors.
He was cast as Henry Ramsay, brother of Kylie Minogue’s character Charlene, in Neighbours, and appeared in 800-plus episodes before winning a Gold Logie for the most popular personality on TV.
He moved to Home and Away and enjoyed a pop career before embarking on a stage career in London’s West End in 1993.
After appearing in a number of TV projects, he returned to Australia to work on the Doctor Blake Mysteries, a period drama set in Ballarat.
In 2013, he was cast as Frank N Furter in a stage production of the Rocky Horror Show touring Australia, but in 2018 was accused of inappropriate behaviour by several female co-stars.
McLachlan is fighting the claims made against him during the production of the Rocky Horror Show, which are subject to an ongoing defamation case.
