The state government will introduce an emergency bill to parliament today seeking to give police more power to crack down on COVID-19 quarantine breaches.
The measure is one of several proposed amendments after NSW recorded its biggest overnight spike in coronavirus cases.
149 people were diagnosed in the past day bringing the state tally to 818.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian described the rise as a "substantial increase" and flagged stricter lockdown measures if the spread can't be reduced.
