Collaroy factory fire destroys $250,000 worth of surfboards
A factory fire on Sydney’s Northern Beaches destroyed more than $250,000 worth of surfboards and left over 100 residents having to leave their nearby homes.
Emergency services were called to a factory on Anzac Avenue at Collaroy shortly before 8pm following reports of flames.
Fire and Rescue NSW officers attended the blaze, evacuating 100 residents from nearby homes, units and businesses as a precaution while they fought the fire.
The blaze was extinguished almost three hours later, shortly before 11pm.
“We could see all this flame and black smoke coming out of the top,” one evacuated resident told 9News.
“I could smell burning and we quickly shut all the windows because we could see the fire raging down the road.”
Police from the Northern Beaches Police Area command established a crime scene at the factory, but the fire is currently not being treated as suspicious.
