Celebrity masseur dodges jail after drink-driving with kids in car
A Sydney massage therapist has been spared jail, but will have to serve home detention, after he was caught drink driving with children in the car.
Jamie Burdett admitted to driving at almost five times the legal alcohol limit, with his 10 year old son on his lap, and eight-year-old daughter in the backseat.
The 45-year-old was arrested by police on a street in Waterloo in September last year, in front of the children.
Police said the celebrity masseur refused to surrender, so they had to use force to take him into custody.
He’s since pleaded guilty to high-range drink driving, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
In his work as a remedial massage therapist, Mr Burdett boasted top clients such as Miranda Kerr.
Today, a magistrate described the case as “extraordinarily serious” and said that children could have been “seriously injured or killed”.
Mr Burdett has been ordered to serve a 16 month intensive corrections order, and has had his driver’s licence disqualified for the maximum period.
