Australian jailed in Bali for stealing designer handbag
An Australian man has been sentenced to four months in prison in Bali for stealing a Gucci handbag.
Bilal Kalache, from Merrylands in Western Sydney, stole the designer bag worth more than $1,200 from a duty free store in the resort town of Kuta.
He’s being held at the Indonesian island’s notorious Kerobokan prison.
Known as Hotel K, it has been home to the Bali Bombers, the Bali Nine and Schapelle Corby.
According to Newscorp, the 43-year-old was shopping with his son and a friend when he stole the bag.
It was found in his son’s suitcase ahead of flying home to Australia.
He claims he forgot to pay for the bag after paying for another bag and a pair of sunglasses.
“At the end of the day it was my fault,” he told the court, reported Newscorp.
Taking into account time already served, he will be released in May.
