Armed children 'ransack 91-year-old's home in robbery'
A 91-year-old man has been allegedly threatened and robbed by a group of children armed with weapons in a crime spree across Perth.
Western Australian Police allege the man’s home, on Claisebrook Road, was one of three properties targeted by four children on May 10 – the youngest believed to be aged just 12.
The victim told 9News he woke to find the four alleged robbers standing over him while he was in bed, armed with golf clubs. He then handed the children $400 in cash.
“It was frightening. They wanted more money, but (I) had nothing left to give,” the 91-year-old said.
Authorities believe the children used an axe to break through to back door of the man’s home before confronting him and making him watch as they ransacked each room.
Detectives have also since said a footprint that was found in the property’s backyard matched one of the boys’ sneakers, leading to the arrest of a 15-year-old and a 12-year-old.
Both children have been charged with aggravated home burglary over the alleged incident, and are also accused of a home invasion on Robinson Avenue and an attempted burglary on Brookman Street on the same night.
Police are still searching for another teenager believed to be connected to the crimes.
