Stabbed mental health worker collapses in front of horrified diners
A mental health worker has died after being stabbed and collapsing at a busy café in Rockingham, south of Perth.
Staff and diners tried desperately to save the woman, who drove herself to the cafe after allegedly being attacked at an apartment block nearby around 5pm yesterday.
The woman was at the apartment block to visit a client when she was stabbed in the neck.
It is understood she drove herself around 700 metres down the road to Dome Café, and stumbled inside for help.
Horrified staff and diners tried to stem the bleeding with towels.
She was rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital but later died from her injuries.
Heavily armed police descended on a block of flats close to the café and smashed in the door of one apartment.
A man was taken into custody and is being questioned by police.
No charges have been laid.
In a statement, Dome Café said the workers who tried to help the woman will be offered counselling.
"Police have requested that the café remain closed whist they investigate the incident," it said.
"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this incident."
