Flu crisis in SA as death toll reaches 82
Health authorities are urging South Australians to get vaccinated as the number of flu deaths reaches 82, even higher than this year’s road death toll.
The state’s death toll from the flu has doubled in just one week with the number of sick people reaching close to 20,000 cases compared to just 1500 this time last year.
According to data obtained by SA Health, the majority of cases are in people aged 65 and over, however a 15-year-old girl has also died.
Flu season typically runs from May until September and there are concerns the already alarming number of deaths will grow even higher.
