Wife of ex-NRL player fined over unrestrained toddler cover-up
The wife of former NRL player John Hopoate has taken the fall for a family member filmed driving with a toddler who was not properly restrained.
Brenda Hopoate refused to say who was driving in a video that shows a 15-month-old girl in the front passenger seat.
Today, she pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to provide a driver's details.
The mother-of-11 was convicted and fined $500.
The video was posted to social media in August, with police turning up at the family's Northern Beaches home.
Hopoate initially told police the person behind the wheel may have been a family member who was visiting from overseas.
But when officers went back to the house a couple of days later, she admitted that was a lie.
She told them she knew who was behind the wheel, but she didn't want to cause any issues within the family.
"I didn't want to dob on them," she said today, agreeing she was sorry.
It remains a mystery who was behind the wheel that day.
