Video emerges of rabbit being thrown, smothered in alcohol
In the latest instance of apparent animal abuse, a group of men have been filmed pouring alcohol on a rabbit before launching it into the air.
The video, posted online on Saturday, sparked instant outrage and prompted many of those involved to delete their social media accounts.
But one of the young men involved has told 9NEWS that the animal was already dead at the time, having been run over by a car several hours earlier.
The video was shot in Waroona, south of Perth, on Saturday night.
In the clip, a man holds the rabbit by the neck, flinging it around, as several people pour alcohol over the small, innocent animal.
"Yeh, yeh boy" one man cries as others laugh and cheer.
Josiah Peck helped film the disturbing scene.
He told 9NEWS he would like to apologise for standing there and recording the incident", saying he was drunk and made a "stupid mistake".
However, he also claims that the rabbit was already dead at the time.
It comes just days after a video of a wombat being stoned to death by a South Australian police officer sparking a national furore and the outrage of the South Australian Premier, Steven Marshall.
The RSPCA says anyone found guilty of animal cruelty can face up to five years in prison or a $50,000 fine. It is urging anyone with information about the video to contact its Cruelty Hotline.
