US cop screams as murder suspect pulls gun on her
Chilling bodycam footage released in the US shows a police officer grappling with a murder suspect after he pulls a gun on her in a dark driveway.
Officer Briana Tedesco, from Lakemoor in Illanois, found the man sleeping in a car in a remote location and went up to the driver’s window to ask him for his identification, Chicago’s Daily Herald reports.
She told the man: "I just have to make sure you don't have any warrants or anything, which I'm sure you don't."
The man told Tedesco that his name was James Dunkin, but he was really 36-year-old Kenneth Martell, who was wanted for the robbery and murder of an 88-year-old man in Pennsylvania.
After radioing the information, Tedesco tells Martell that there is no driver's licence on record for someone by the name of James Dunkin.
Martell then pulls out a gun and points it at Tedesco’s face.
Tedesco screams and shouts, "no, no."
Almost 20 seconds of frantic tussling ensues before the footage then cuts to the bodycam of a second officer, Anthony Loiacono, who runs up to the car.
The footage ends before Loiacono fires one shot at Martrell, killing him.
The incident happened in July last year but the video has just been released by authorities.
Lake County State's Attorney Michael Nerheim said the two officers were "within feet of a man armed with two handguns" and that "only one option remained for the officers: To defend themselves."
