Katherine Langford shows off sword-fighting skills in new Netflix show Cursed
Perth’s Katherine Langford has proven herself as a bad-ass, sword-wielding mythical Lady of the Lake in Netflix’s Cursed.
The fantasy series was released last week and the 24-year-old said she wanted her character, Nimue, have integrity as the character leading the story.
“I really wanted that strong sense of not undermining her capabilities and honouring what she could do in the circumstances where she could,” Langford said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
A big part of that was becoming a “capable and confident sword fighter” for which Langford received four weeks training.
“To be able to get through that shoot and to perform all the stunts, that’s really what I wanted to do, to honour Nimue’s strength,” she said.
“Not only learning a skill set in a short period of time and shooting on different locations, but also being able to juggle the spontaneous changes and deal with everything that came with filming while maintaining the integrity of her story.”
Langford describes herself as a “lover of history and fantasy” so she was instantly drawn to the story, which is a reboot of the British legend of King Arthur.
“I immediately, as soon as I picked it up, just fell in love with this story and it was something that I couldn't put down ... it was something that really excited me,” she said.
