Imperial Ice Stars visit skating rink in Victoria Square before Adelaide season of Swan Lake on Ice
SKATERS take to ice in winter like swans to a lake, so members of the Imperial Ice Stars visited the pop-up rink in Victoria Square for a quick warm-up on arrival for their Adelaide season.
The 23 former Olympic, world, European and national champions – who have collectively won more than 250 competition medals – will perform Swan Lake on Ice to Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet score here until Sunday.
“I was walking with (Russian 1995 World Junior champion) Olga Sharutenko, who plays our main black swan, and we were amazed that you have an open-air icerink here in Adelaide,’’ said artistic director Tony Mercer.
“Their world is ice-skating, they love ice-skating, so anything that promotes ice-skating they adore.’’
Since their formation in 2004, the Imperial Ice Stars have performed shows including Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and The Nutcracker on ice for more than four million people in 27 countries.
Swan Lake on Ice is at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre Theatre nightly from today until Sunday, with extra matinee shows on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
