Freak wave hits whale watching boat
Video obtained by 9News shows one large wave hit the Spirit of Gold Coast Whale Watching boat as passengers laughed and enjoyed the ride.
Seconds later, a huge wave slammmed into the front of the vessel, flooding the inside of the boat and sending bags and hats flying.
Initially it was feared some passengers may have been thrown overboard, but all passengers were accounted for.
Six people were treated for minor injuries by paramedics upon returning to shore.
Courtney Duffas, 19, her mother and friend had moved inside moments before the wave struck.
"Where we were standing we would have been washed over most likely because we were at the edge," Ms Duffas told 9News.
The company said the captain did everything he could to ensure the safety of passengers and had checked the forecast before heading out.
An investigation has been launched.
