Danger, Will Robinson! Netflix drops epic Lost in Space reboot trailer
Danger, Will Robinson.
The threat looks like Star Wars and sounds like nostalgia. Netflix's latest reboot is the 1960s classic Lost In Space and sci-fi fans are going wild for the trailer.
The original series first hit television screens in 1965. Created by legendary producer Irwin Allen, it aired for just three seasons. However, like its science fiction cousin Star Trek the show found its feet – and a passionate fanbase – in subsequent reruns.
Lost in Space is now considered among the most-loved sci-fi series of all time, despite not enjoying the same success as Star Trek or Star Wars. That could all be about to change, with Netflix signalling its reboot will have a much darker edge compared to the colourful and camp original.
Set 30 years in the future, Netflix's Lost in Space will follow a similar premise to the original: The Robinsons, a family of skilled space colonists, find themselves lost on a strange planet lightyears from their destination.
Twelve -year-old American actor Max Jenkins will play the young, sensitive lead Will Robinson. His parents will be portrayed by Toby Stephens and Canadian actor Molly Parker, who will be familiar to audiences thanks to her roles in House of Cards and Wormwood.
American actress Parker Posey will play the villain-turned-comic Dr Smith, a role originally played by male actor Jonathan Harris. The series' beloved robot, too, looks set to get a modern makeover.
The most recent Lost in Space reboot was a 1998 film starring Matt LeBlanc and Mean Girls' Lacey Chabert. While it ended Titanic's run at the top of the Box Office, it was almost universally panned by critics.
Lost in Space crash-lands on Netflix on Friday, April 13.
