Adelaide cabaret artist Hans to compete in America's Got Talent
HANS, the wunderkind from Adelaide, is bursting on to the world stage as a contestant on the new series of America’s Got Talent.
The local cabaret artist and Fringe favourite – aka Adelaide Confidential’s Matt Gilbertson – is the first South Australian to star on the top-rating TV juggernaut, judged by international talent scout Simon Cowell, supermodel Heidi Klum and Scary Spice Mel B.
Now into its 13th season, AGT regularly draws more than 12 million viewers a week in the US and even more in the UK and Asia, but Hans said his appearance will ensure a further “ratings boost”.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity, but it came about because they begged me,” he said.
“Of course, Simon Cowell is a business man, so he wanted this year’s season of AGT to get a ratings boost.”
Hans is one of about 30,000 acts who applied to compete for the $1 million first prize and a headline show in Las Vegas.
“I want what everyone who goes on a reality show wants ... to be exploited,” he said.
“I don’t know why America needs to come to a German living in Australia to find talent but I can only say they have found the most fabulous people from around the globe – obviously!”
Hans is performing sold-out shows at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival with local band Lucky Seven this weekend.
Hans’ audition episode airs on Foxtel’s FOX8 THURSDAY at 7pm
